What do you think is most needed for the Clean Election movement in Nagaland? Give reasons.

Public Awareness:
•    Public awareness is most important. Truth be told most of the people are not even aware of Clean election, they do not even know what it means. It is is big joke. People need to be made aware and educated.
•    People must become educated on Clean Election movement and its goals. Unfortunately, there is one serious problem. Who will educate who? The state and church as institutions do not have credibility or the trust of the people and so the people will not listen to them. Who will educate the people is the biggest issue. Whoever it is must have the confidence of the people.
•    Most of the people do not know about Clean Election movement. Let us read and learn how the Mizoram clean election movement was far more effective than the Nagaland movement here. We need to learn a lot.
•    Because, All Politicians are public and all publics are Politicians.
•    Conscientious what's right and wrong and let the individual decide for his or her future.
•    Because it all starts with the people: The public (community/tribe) must send the right candidate for election; Public must ask for candidates to come under one platform to share and discuss about election manifestos and promises; Public must ask for exercising individual franchise/voting against community voting, so that the right candidate is elected; Public must be made aware of the performances of the past candidates.

Strict legal action for violators:
•    Let’s get to the point. Yes, there must be strict legal action for violators. The Election Commission must be more active. In Nagaland, till this day no candidate or public has ever faced any legal action for violating the electoral process and indulging in dirty and corrupt election. This is a serious matter.

Nomination of upright candidate:
•    Yes nominating honest and upright candidate is very important while electing the right leaders. In our present Naga scenario, it is very sad to see that people are nominating based on financial background. This is not healthy. No wonder Nagaland has become very corrupted, we are nominating wrong candidates.
•    We need honest leaders, meaning good human beings as our leader.
•    Will the political party heed to this requirement to nominate upright candidates? So far, the political parties are only interested in nominating winnable candidates, they do not think at all about upright candidates. The whole system needs to be revamped, just picking up a point or two in the entire process will not work. The whole system needs to be changed if there is to be a clean election in Nagaland.
•    But who's contesting? Same old rich corrupt politicians who give money to churches, student bodies, civil society organizations, GBs etc. So, the same cycle continues

Others:
•    Action must be taken on those violating the clean election movement. Without strict action, there will be no step towards clean election. In our Naga society, the action must involve social and cultural humiliation and those violating must be made public. Without such action, there will be no clean election.
•    Many of our Naga villages have this habit of having consensus candidate. This is okay when it comes to electing village council, but in a parliamentary form of democracy where there is adult franchise, this indigenous way of choosing leaders through consensus does not work. In this election system each individual must be given the right to vote according to their own desire. Legal action must be taken on villages that are violating adult franchise.

•    Nagaland is also known for ' land of organisations'! Good for nothing!! They only know how to submit memorandum and ultimatum but during election khotom everyone is busy counting stars.
•    First Mindset and perspective. Nothing will change until we change our Mindset and perspective.
•    Freeze all the candidates’ accounts from now. Simple!
