What do you think is the most effective way to reduce corruption in Nagaland? Give reasons

Stronger laws & punishments:

•    Start questions our leaders n stop blindly support in basis of religion, caste, colour, tribes Yes, stronger laws and punishments are required, but who is going to implement them. In Nagaland, the implementation of laws and rules have always been found wanting.

•    The Government Vigilance commission is only a show case without tooth and bite, powerless and harmless unit. how can they prosecute their own workmates?? More transparent and more stronger punishment is needed. I dont remember anyone going to jail for corruption in Nagaland.

•    With Stronger laws & punishment people will be forced to cue in the right direction as our people tend to follow what we see and not just mere awareness. Top brass should be given harsher punishment to set an example.

Public awareness campaigns:

•    All stakeholders should be awarded to reduce/eradicate this cancerous evil in our Naga society.

•    Because 70 percent of public are ignorance so that the higher up are trying to cheat on them that led corruption in our society.
•    Because doesn't know to fight for their rights

•    Corruption starts at the grassroot level. What sort of government we have is our own doing because we elected the corrupt leaders? Those politician at the helms of our affairs have been drawn from the pool of every constituencies. They represent and reflect the characteristics of the people of each constituency. Unless the people stop money for vote and elect capable and clean leaders nothing is going to change. There is a moral/spiritual bankruptcy that has set in deep inside the majority of the village folks/common man who are the bulk of the voters. The common man has to understand that the power to change our circumstances is in that vote he or she has. Like Esau the majority of the people sell their rights for a bowl of dal every election.

•    Integrity have to be taught from primary school level

•    Public need to be made aware of not just the practices of corruption, but also the consequences of being part of the corrupt system- how future generations are being destroyed because of the widespread practices and acceptance of corruption in our society. As long as public are tolerant and even participants of corruption when the opportunity arises, no amount of law will rid Nagaland of the stench of corruption that has become so entrenched in our state.

•    Simple, strong laws and punishments are rarely meted out against our corrupt (mostly) ministers and their acts. The public resent their acts yet never protested openly until recent times. If there is awareness among the masses, corruption can be nipped in the bud! For this matter, the government can better formulate laws if required. First, awareness, then the laws as is necessary. In this way can corruption be brought to task!

•    Start talking it in Church. Transparent selection of capable individuals, that means enough of backdoor appointment. Start naming individuals and department practicing frontdoor (clan, tribe, backing), backdoor (son, daughter, relative, extended relative, nijor chinnia manu). Refrain from accepting corrupted appointment, know that you become a part of the problem once you do it.

•    We need more public awareness to fight corruption. The fight against corruption is successful only when majority of the society is educated and aware of their rights. In Nagaland, the level of knowledge and information is very poor.

Others (Specify):

•    Cultural shift where corruption becomes shameful and stimatized. This can be achieved by social, spiritual and intentional policies as well as changing the narratives through social media. Need to educate public that inequity and disparity in health, wealth and access does not help individuals or larger community and working for greater good is helping our own to thrive! Strong leadership who would walk the walk and walk the talk - courage, creativity and competent! Look into the history of how Singapore became the economic hub of Asia - inspite of having no natural resources, fragmented demographics .It started with a pursuit of anti- corruption, anti- sectarianism, and intentional policies to remove social, economic disparity by promoting equitable human needs of housing, education and health care.

•    Many know so much about the pervading reality already, and are victims of corruption themselves. Measures should start from the individual, to the family, the people group and to the state. I also desire that the higher ups truly feel the dire state of Nagaland, instead of deliberate non-chalance.

•    The level of corruption in Nagaland is very systemic and it is a fact that majority of the people are directly or indirectly participants in it. We only look at the top of the food chain but the society itself is a participant of corruption. So how does one expect changes to take place. We need structural changes in our society.

•    The one solution that's always been lurking around us is "first change you and me" as corruption starts within us individuals.
