Clement Imsong
There comes a point in life
when you realise that not every wrong
needs to be carried until it is made right.
Some words can be left where they were spoken.
Some accusations can remain unanswered.
Some people may never see the truth
the way you know it.
And perhaps that is alright.
Because truth does not become smaller
when it is misunderstood,
nor does it become greater
when everyone agrees with it.
There is a certain freedom
in no longer needing to explain yourself.
To let someone have their version
without making it your life’s work
to correct it.
To forgive,
not because the wound was small,
but because you have no desire
to build a home inside the wound.
There are things only God can judge,
without anger, without partiality,
without needing to hear the loudest voice.
So some battles are simply laid down.
Not out of weakness.
Not out of fear.
Not out of defeat.
But because peace has become more valuable
than being proven right.
And perhaps, in the end,
that is what remains.
Not who spoke the last word.
Not who won the argument.
Not who proved themselves right.
But who walked away
with their heart still intact,
and their soul still free of hatred.
“Do not be overcome by evil,
but overcome evil with good.”
— Romans 12:21
