It’s disheartening to say that Arkakong Constituency has not been represented in the cabinet for the 6 consecutive terms. Over the decades, there has been a rampant development deficit and growing disparity in development among the 6 Ranges.
Keeping in view progressive leadership of Rio and the development gap in the region, the people of the constituency has projected Nuklotoshi as the young and energetic leader of our people with immense hope and faith in him.
In 2008 Assembly Election, as a first timer, the people were contented with mere MLA and Chairman, NIDC and NHL (the post least preferred) with high hopes that patience and tolerance will pay at the end. Undoubtedly, our representative has served faithfully under the leadership of the Shri Neiphiu Rio.
DAN-III has done exceedingly well in the recently concluded Assembly Election with a landslide majority and reducing the Congress tally to a single digit. Hats off to Rio led NPF government for the brilliant 3 consecutive achievements.
During the recent election, to counter the forces of the election campaign by Congress leaders like Sonia Gandhi and other star leaders from Congress, the people of Arkakong expected Rio to do some justice by means of election campaign in the constituency but unfortunately, that did not worked out.
The people of Arkakong had sleepless night for months at a stretch and fought tooth and nail against the forces of the Congress and underground factions. The battle of election and the sacrifice and trauma involved is same for all constituencies. Our hardwork has finally paid off and by the Grace of Almighty we have come out victoriously.
When the time came for the allocation of portfolios, the people had high hopes of reward by inducting our representative into the cabinet fold respecting the mandate of the people and the desire for development. However, the aspiration of the people has been belied and discontentment of the people has been aggravated by over-riding seniority and loyalty. On top of that, the Constituency people were astonished when Chief Minister justified young leader as the reason for inclusion of Merentoshi in the Cabinet because the Arkakong constituency people feels that their representative is also equally young and represent the young faces of the present government.
In Mokokchung, all the Ranges are not equitably developed. Ongpangkong Range has been consistently representing in the cabinet for the third consecutive terms that too 2 cabinets in DAN-II and 2 in DAN-III. Thus, all the developmental activities are not channelized in a fair manner.
People elected our representative having immense hope and faith and trusting the statesmanship, integrity and the sense of justice from our Honourable Chief Minister, Nagaland. However, that too seems to have been overshadowed by the action of some vested interests.
Where is the sense of justice? The people of Arkakong are extremely displeased for sidelining the deserving and the discriminatory treatment meted out to the constituency.
