It is heartbreaking that every year the government pours huge amounts of money into organizing the Hornbill Festival, which in reality brings little to no benefit to the general public. It has turned into a celebration for the privileged—a grand display meant to impress the outside world—while we, the common people, continue to suffer.
The government today struggles to provide even timely salaries to its employees, let alone the basic necessities such as good roads, functional hospitals, and essential public amenities. So what is the purpose of spending such enormous sums on a festival that lasts only a few days? If the same resources were invested in development, we could at least have better infrastructure, proper roads, reliable healthcare, and an overall higher quality of life.
The main Question remain: Why are we so eager to please outsiders when we cannot even ensure the well-being of our own people?
