Widow assaulted in barbaric act; village demands justice

Dimapur, May 14 (MExN): The Jakhama Thenuko Krotho, Kohima (JTKK) under the umbrella of the Jakhama Union Kohima (JUK) has appealed to the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima with regard to what it termed as the barbaric act committed against a widow, Kehosele Tase, wife of late. Pudidel Tase on the morning of April 23, 2009 at Jakhama village. According to an official representation from the JTKK, it was alleged that one Hosuhe Tetso GB, his four daughters and three grandsons along with their accomplices had committed a crime of the worst order with the ‘intent to murder’ and that the entire incident had been well planned and prepared meticulously with one intention—the ‘intention to kill’.

According to the JTKK, the root cause of the crime arose out of Hosuhe Tetso GB aged more than 80 years, who had attempted to rape the victim Kehosele Tase earlier in the office where they are both employed. Further on April 22, 2009 they picked up a fight on their way home from their paddy field. The representation to the DC stated that the accused in the crime should include Hosuhe Tetso, his four daughters and three grandsons besides the vehicle owners and the drivers who transported the accused to and from the residence of the victim at Jakhama village.

Meanwhile, the representation has appealed to the DC not to grant bail to the four daughters namely Pelenu—Alias Kelahole Paphino, Puvizonu Tetso, Kevidele Kikhi and Kevitele Tase. Further it demanded the immediate arrest of Dr David Tetso, Azha Tetso, Tepukhol Tetso, Hosuhe Tetso and the vehicle owners and drivers used for committing the crime on April 23, 2009. The representation also demanded that the photographs of the names mentioned as accused be published in the local newspapers. It also demanded that the accused should be punished as per the provision of criminal law.

Accordingly, the JTKK has vehemently condemned this barbaric act pointing out that the victim was mercilessly beaten and that she was in a coma; and feared that she could be permanently handicapped for life, if she survives. The DC was requested to intervene into the matter in order to control the situation from further escalating. It was informed that the JTKK met at an emergency meeting on May 14 at the residence of Neisevou Kirha, Kohima.

According to the JTKK, the victim was mercilessly beaten on the morning of April 23, 2009 wherein at around 6:00 am the four daughters came well prepared and took out iron bars, MS rods, spades etc and started to beat and hit the victim. It was also claimed that the three grandsons of Hosuhe Tetso—Dr David Tetso, Azha Tetso and Tepukhol Tetso had locked the door from outside even as the four daughters went about assaulting the victim. It was informed that after the incident, the four daughters and three grandsons left the victim’s residence and exited from Jakhama village. The accused, it was informed had come in several vehicles from Kohima.
