Wildlife Week celebrated in Dimapur and Longleng districts

Dimapur, October 5 (MExN): The Wildlife Divisions of Dimapur and Longleng celebrated the Wildlife Week under the theme “Big Cats: Predators under threat.”  

The Dimapur Wildlife Division organised the celebration on October 4 at the Nagaland Zoological Park. The event was participated by 50 students and 6 teachers from Government Middle School, Naga New Model, a press release informs.  

Obed Bohovi, ACF, Director NZP introduced the zoo to the students and deliberated on the importance of celebrating the wildlife who were then taken for a guided tour. Menya Wongto, Forest Ranger in his keynote address “emphasised on the conservation and protection of wild animals where tigers, leopards and losts of Big Cats are in the verge of extinction”.  

A quiz competition was also organised on the occasion and the department also donated a leopard picture frame and posters to the school.  

Meanwhile, in Longleng, a wildlife awareness program was organised on October 4 and 5 at the Government High School Nyengching, Longleng to bring attention towards wildlife conservation among the students.  

Beizo Suokhrie, DFO, Longleng Division, spoke on the “importance of preserving our declining forest and wildlife in the state” and urged the students to live in “harmony with nature”. A drawing competition on wildlife was also organized.
