Wildlife week celebrated in Tuensang, Kiphire

Dimapur, October 10 (MExN): The Tuensang Division Forest Department organized the celebration of wildlife week 2017 programme under the theme, “Wildlife and Nature” on October 7 at Hakushang School, Tuensang.  

Around 170 students from four schools attended the program along with the teacher incharge and Forest Officials.  

In his keynote address, Tsingthrise Sangtam, the Range Officer Tuensang explained to students about the importance of observing wildlife week and added that all living organisms hold a place in the food chain.  

Extinction of one species in food chain can threaten and alter the physical environment as well, he said.

  Dr. C. Zupeni Tsanglai, IFS,DFO Tuensang also spoke on the occasion and encouraged the students to reach out to influence and engaged their parents, neighbor, communities to promote awareness on wildlife conservation.  

Competitions were held in three categories- Painting, Essay and quiz competition - to spread awareness and create consciousness towards wildlife conservation and protection. Winners were felicitated with certificates and prizes during the events.  

Zuthunglo Ovung, Teacher incharge Hakushang School lauded the efforts of Forest Department for involving the students in wildlife week celebration.  

The programme which was chaired by Florence, attached Range Officer and started with an invocation by Somba Chang, Forester 1, Tuensang Range.  

Kiphire Forest Division 

The Kiphire Forest Division observed the Wildlife Week 2017 on October 6 at El Beth High School, Kiphire Town under the theme,“Listen to the young voices” At the celebration, DFO Kiphire Rajesh Kumar IFS explained the philosophy behind the observance of the wildlife every year during the 1st week of October.  

Elaborating on this year theme, he requested all the students to spread the message of wildlife conservation throughout the district to make a small beginning from their sides.   He also talked about the initiatives taken by the wildlife wing of Forest Department as well as contributions made by Eco-clubs like Bhutan Glory in spreading the awareness of wildlife conservation.  

A quiz competition and painting competition was organized on the theme of “Forest and Wildlife” among the students varying from class VII to class X where almost 100 students participated. Participants were also asked to write a small essay on the “personal contribution in the wildlife conservation”.  

In the end, cash prizes and “Certificate of Appreciation” were distributed to the winners of the quiz and painting competitions. Eight students were also given consolations prizes as encouragement for participations. All the other participants were also given the “Certificate of Participation” by DFO. The program concluded with a vote of thanks given to Principal, El Beth Public School.
