Dimapur, October 8 (MExN): Nagaland Zoological Park, Rangapahar, celebrated Wildlife Week 2025 under the theme ‘Human–Animal Co-existence’ from October 2 to 8. The week-long programme aimed to spread awareness among visitors, especially students, on the importance of understanding and protecting wildlife, stated an update received here.
Throughout the week, Eco-Warriors Nagaland engaged visitors with informative interactions and distributed brochures highlighting key aspects of wildlife conservation and human–animal coexistence. The celebrations also included painting competitions for school students in two categories-Junior and Senior-based on the year’s theme.
One of the other special activities during the celebration was a plastic pickup competition held for college and school students, encouraging them to contribute to a cleaner environment. Prizes were awarded to winners as well as to all participants, recognizing their efforts.

The main event took place on October 7, graced by Rongsenlemla Imchen, IFS, CF (NTC) as the Special Guest, and chaired by Dr C Zupeni Tsanglai, IFS, Director, Nagaland Zoological Park.
Eco-Warriors Nagaland organised an open quiz competition on wildlife and animals, which saw enthusiastic participation from various schools. Students who correctly answered the questions received prizes, adding to the spirit of learning and fun. Prizes for the painting competitions were also awarded during the main event, where Christabelle KimeriShitiri of Maple Tree School, Jungshienla Jamir of Maple Tree School, and Kilika N Shohe of Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur bagged first, second, and third place respectively in the Senior Category. In the Junior Category, Mriganka Kashyap of St. Mary’s H.S. School and ViputoAyemi of Little Star Hr. Sec. School bagged first and second place respectively.

In her address, Rongsenlemla Imchen, IFS, CF (NTC) emphasized the significance of Wildlife Week, urging everyone to take active roles in wildlife-related events and awareness programs. She highlighted the responsibility of each individual to contribute positively to conservation efforts and to build harmonious relationships with nature.
The event concluded with an educational tour of the zoo for participating students, allowing them to observe and learn about different species firsthand while reinforcing the message of conservation and coexistence.
