Riding on the “development” plank as its main election agenda, the Nagaland State BJP today exuded confidence that it would form the next government after the 2018 state assembly election.
“We have now around 2 lakh BJP members in the state and the BJP has emerged as one of the main political parties in Nagaland. It (BJP) is the only alternative party for the next assembly election,” said BJP Nagaland State unit president, Visasolie Lhoungu.
The State party president said with the growing resentment against corruption and desire of the Naga populace for a change, the time is ripe for the BJP to provide a government which is corruption-free and fully committed to development.
Addressing a BJP State felicitation programme of former commissioner & secretary, Government of Nagaland, Ramongo Lotha, who joined the BJP, Lhoungu also informed that the Central BJP leaders are determined and making all strategies to form a BJP government in Nagaland.
BJP national secretary and North East coordinator, Prashant Arora, who also attended the event, said the party has high prospects to form governments both in Meghalaya and Nagaland, after the assembly elections in the respective states.
Ramongo, who is seeking BJP ticket to contest the forthcoming assembly election from 39 Sanis assembly constituency, said he decided to join the BJP as he was “attracted” by the party’s Constitution and the policies and programmes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The retired bureaucrat also said he was compelled to join politics after seeing the pathetic conditions of his area people.
On issue of party tickets, both the national and State BJP leaders said the criteria would be based on winning prospect, acceptability and credibility of the candidates.
State BJP general secretary, Jaangshillung Gonmei, Media Cell, K James Vizo, and State BJP vice president, Tsasipi Sangtam, among others, were present on the occasion.
