A candlelight service in memory of late Khriesavizo Metha and late Bendangnungsang Lkr, the two youths who died during the January 31 police firing incident in Dimapur, was held Sunday, February 26 evening at the Diphupar village local ground.

Hundreds of citizens and well wishers from different villages and colonies under Dimapur district attended the service.

Co-convenor, JCC, Vekhosayi Nyekha, who spoke during the service, said that the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) and the Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC) would not rest till the government fulfills all demands made by the Naga public with regard to the protest against 33% women reservation in the ULBs.

Nyekha said though the government had fulfilled the primary demand for TR Zeliang to step down as the Chief Minister, two other demands including suspension of former Dimapur Commissioner of Police, Liremo Lotha, and IRB personnel responsible for the killing of the two youths and, amendment of the Nagaland Municipal Act, were yet to be acted upon.   The Diphupar Village Council, DYNO and DNSU also echoed JCC/NTAC commitment that they would not rest till all demands of JCC/NTAC were fulfilled.

The family members of late Khriesavizo and late Bendangnungsang in their speeches meanwhile appealed to the Naga public that their deaths should not go in vain and that the two youths had sacrificed themselves for Naga unity and oneness.

Leaders and representatives from various organizations including JCC/NTAC, Diphupar Village Council, Diphupar Naga Youth Organization (DNYO), Diphupar Naga Students’ Union (DNSU), Diphupar Naga Women Organization (DNWO), in their solidarity messages reiterated that the sacrifices made by the two youths for the common Naga cause should not go in vain.

‘Take steps to avoid further turmoil’

DVC says Zeliang might have stepped down but solution yet to be found

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 26 (MExN): The Diphupar Village Council (DVC) today issued an open letter to the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) asking the latter to initiate appropriate steps “to avoid further turmoil and chaos in the state for which the public of Diphupar shall not be held responsible.”

The letter reminded that “in response to the call of the Nagas spearheaded by the JCC, against election of ULB, the public of Diphupar with its youth participated.” In the process, two youth from Diphupar were killed.

The DVC reminded that consequent to this, three demands were placed, which included resignation of TR Zeliang as Chief Minister; suspension of the Dimapur Commissioner of Police and termination of service of the personnel involved in the firing incident; and nullification of the ULB elections held on February 1.

While appreciating TR Zeliang for stepping down as CM, the DVC however expressed concern that the “portfolio and status he has been given by the present Chief Minister Dr Shurhozelie is appeared to be an eye wash, as the blood of our most precious sons/brothers have not yet dried  and that justice will not be delivered as long as he enjoys his current status.”

“He may have stepped down, but the solution is not yet found,” the DVC said, while cautioning that if he is elected as CM in the future “that shall be tantamount to betrayal and shall lead to more bloodshed.”

The DVC further stated that in order to enable delivery of “fair justice, the Minister of Home and Parliamentary Secretary of Municipal Affairs of the TR Zeliang ministry should also be reallocated.”
