DIMAPUR, AUGUST 21 (MExN): RTI Cell of Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) had on May 29, 2012 submitted an RTI application to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Mokokchung seeking information on certain areas of public interest. “We would like to make public the information as furnished by the APIO of Deputy Commissioner’s office, Mokokchung on June 8, 2012 for further public discourse”, informed a press note issued by Limalenden Longkumer and Senti Walling, RTI Cell, MTLT.

Stating that it had inquired about when the standing Deputy Commissioner’s office building was established to which the respondent, APIO of Mokokchung DC’s Office stated that no record was available at their disposal for the same. However, MTLT stated that it had received information from other reliable sources that it was constructed during 1961-‘62 as per the PWD (Housing Division) records.

Having learnt that a certain amount of money had been sanctioned by the government of Nagaland for construction of a new DC Office building in Mokokchung, the MTLT had sought information regarding the amount sanctioned. The APIO stated that an amount of Rs.26.67 crores had been sanctioned for constructing a 5-storey building. It was not mentioned as to when the amount was sanctioned but it is also learnt from very reliable sources that the amount was sanctioned on 24th of September, 2008. It is yet to ascertain the present status of the above mentioned sanctioned amount.

On being inquired why the construction of the new DC office building has not started, it was stated that “the work could not be started due to non-vacation of the site as the resultant disputes with the Indian Army.” Further, on being inquired when construction of the new DC office building will start, it was categorically mentioned that “unless and until the site in dispute is settled, the construction of new Deputy Commissioner Office building will not start.”

The authority in concern also provided copies of sketches of the proposed new DC office building as per the request made by the RTI Cell, the press note from the MTLT stated.
