Dimapur, June 1 (MExN): ‘Friendship Forum of Golaghat and Wokha Districts’ (FFoGWD) held its handing and taking over of new office bearers for the tenure 2012 – 2014 at Merapani Town under Golaghat district, Assam last Thursday.   Good number of members from both the districts attended the meeting, stated Thunglamo, Press Secretary, FFoGWD in a press release.

At the meeting, Pinyimthung Lotha called both Golaghat and Wokha people to retain cordial relationship and to extend co-operation for lasting peaceful atmosphere in the border areas, while taking charge as the new Chairman of the forum.

The note informed that the two districts held a threadbare discussion relating to the border problems, and later agreed to propagate the ideas and concept of the forum to the people, that “both the sides have consented to preserve and educate the people to respect each other.” Speaking at the gathering Yansathung Jami former Convenor of the Friendship Forum opined that “we are one - we are not people from across ocean - let us uphold the good spirit and adhere to respect the age old relations between the Ahom and the Nagas,” it added.

One of the resolutions adopted during the meeting was to organise cultural exchange and sports for bringing strong relationship between the two districts of Assam and Nagaland (i.e. Ahoms of Assam and Kyongs of Nagaland). The meeting also resolved to propagate the ideas and concept of the forum and to reach out to the people living in adjoining border areas by preserving and respecting each other’s belongings. Further, it resolved to discourage any initiation of economic blockage and bandhs by either of the sides and finally it was decided that any dispute/misunderstanding arising at the adjoining border belts will be tabled by the forum for bringing amicable justice through negotiation and mutual trust.
