Wokha bids farewell to WTC Chairperson Khozamo Murry

The funeral service of late Khozamo Murry, chairperson of the Wokha Town Council (WTC), was held at the Public Ground, Wokha, on Wednesday, with people from all walks of life paying their last respects.

The service was attended by MLA Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, members and staff of the WTC, representatives of the Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, NPF party members of Wokha district, family members, friends, as well as members of Wokha Town and the Wokha Village Union.

As a mark of respect, all business establishments in Wokha town remained closed from 10 AM to 3 PM during the district mourning period.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Humtsoe paid tribute to the late Murry’s vision and dedication, describing him as a selfless leader who worked tirelessly for the welfare of the community. He said Murry was widely regarded as the “guardian of Wokha town,” shouldering multiple responsibilities and contributing his time and resources across various platforms. Humtsoe urged the congregation to cherish life as a precious gift, to forgive and love one another, and to renew hope and faith in God. He also offered prayers for comfort and peace for the bereaved family.

Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar, IAS, conveyed condolences on behalf of the district administration and recalled his brief association with the late leader. He described Murry as a committed and dedicated leader whose demise was a great loss to Wokha town and the district, adding that his service to the people would be long remembered.

Members of the Wokha Town Council and leaders from various organisations also shared words of tribute during the service. Rev Abemo Jungio, pastor of Wokha Town Baptist Church (WTBC), delivered the message from the Scriptures, followed by a mass benediction prayer pronounced by Chumbenthung Murry, assistant pastor of WTBC.

The mortal remains of late Khozamo Murry were later taken to his native village, Wokha, and laid to rest at the Wokha Village Baptist Church cemetery.
