Parliamentary Secretary and MLA, Nkhao Lotha today came out heavily against the district administration of Wokha district for its failure to conduct the village chairman elections in Pangti village and threatened to go on an indefinite dharna outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner Wokha town if the election is not completed with three days from today.

The parliamentary secretary in a hard-hitting press release stated that Pangti Village, which is the biggest village in Wokha district, does not have an elected village council members and chairman like other villages in the district mainly because of interferences by former CAO Wokha Region and his men having vested interests compounded by ‘ineffective district administration’ .

The release stated that the state government has already issued several notifications and orders to the district administration for the conduct of the village chairman election in the village. The release added that the village council members along with the Pangti village students’ union leaders submitted at least three representations, jointly and separately to the district administration for the same matter; however the deputy commissioner issued and revoked the election order on some lame excuses.

“In these more than one year (of) self induced administrative turmoil, the Deputy Commissioner had issued orders for conducting the election only to revoke these orders explaining some exaggerated law and order problem and lame excuses” the release stated.

The release also cited one instance where the deputy commissioner had gone back on his words for the conduct of the election. The release stated that on 24 January this year, the DC had promised a joint representative, comprising of village council members and officials of Pangti village student union, to issue order for the conduct of election within a day or two, which was no fulfilled till date.

The release hit out at the indifferent attitude of the Deputy Commissioner and expressed unhappiness over the silence of the DC with regards to the election at the expense of the villagers.

“Till date, the Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, who is supposed to be the guardian of District Administration and the administrative arm of the State Government, has chosen (n) to remain a silent spectator at the expense of the innocent villagers. These (read this) shows the ineffective (ness) and incompetence(y) on the part of the District Administration” the release stated.

The Parliamentary Secretary after listing all his misgivings about the District administration with regards to the village chairman election stated that he, being the representative of the affected village having obligations and responsibilities towards the electorates, is left with no options but to go on protest, even to the extend of indefinite dharna, if the entire process for the election at Pangti village is not completed within three days.
