Wokha dist celebrates ‘50 years of Renewal and Transformation’

Wokha District celebrated its Golden Jubilee under the theme ‘50 years of Renewal and Transformation’ at Public Ground Wokha on December 21. The occasion was graced by Deputy Chief Minister, Yanthungo Patton as the chief guest accompanied by Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor to Agriculture; Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe; Achumbemo Kikon, MLA; and SS Ezung, ex MLA.

Patton wished for “happiness, joy, peace, love and unity” amongst the Lotha community through this jubilee. “All the four of us standing as leaders is because of the support and prayers we received from our people,” Patton stated. He also encouraged district officers to focus on the well-being of the people and submit development proposals to the government. He also assured that the government will provide proper cooperation.

Patton also urged the Wokha DC to monitor attendance of government officials. He also emphasised that this is the first time that all the four Lotha leaders have united to work for the people and urged the gathering to support them in the  maintaining this unity among the four legislators.

Patton also appealed everyone to support Clean Election policy and encouraged them to vote for leaders who deserve it.
MLA Achumbemo Kikon in his speech emphasized that “jubilee is a time of celebration, a celebration of an achievement of the past.” He remarked that Wokha is coined as the ‘Land of Plenty’ not only in terms of agriculture product but even in terms of human resources. He acknowledged the Lotha community as a forward looking community. He said that Wokha is a home for every Nagas, a place and a home where great history is being created not only for the Lotha people alone but for the Nagas as a whole.

We have also proven ourselves that we are from a land of plenty in a sense that we have produced great leaders and great officers, Kikon added. He called upon everyone to take this jubilee as an opportunity to rededicate to do good things for the community so that the same omen will return to them.

MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe expressed jubilee greetings to all the people gathered. Talking on the theme ‘50 years of Renewal and Transformation,’ he emphasised on the need to reflect one's own lifestyle. Humtsoe said that jubilee is a day of celebration and a platform to address issues of the community and urged everyone to take the opportunity to discuss and come out with solutions. He also urged the individuals to prioritize societal welfare over personal interest inorder to usher in a prosperous society leading to positive changes in personal lives.

Advisor for Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan in his speech highlighted on the year 1876 when Wokha rose to prominence as the Headquarter of the Naga Hills, marking a defining moment in history. He stated that the establishment of Wokha as headquarter was more than a mere administrative change, symbolizing a deep acknowledgement of the courage inherent in the Lotha People.

Yanthan expressed that this 50th Jubilee celebration extends beyond a mere celebration as it serves a resounding call for uniform introspection on achievements scored by the Lotha community. He called upon the gathering to navigate the intricate tapestry of the past, embrace the present and urged everyone to cast a vision towards a future filled with optimism and promise.
He concluded his speech wishing for a journey ahead to be marked by achievements, growth and unity amongst the Lotha community.

Er Mhondamo Ovung, Chairman, Lotha Hoho in his speech congratulated the committee members of the Golden Jubilee for the successful celebration. He emphasised on the word “growth,” and stated that celebrating the Golden Jubilee means celebrating growth, as it defines the honesty of the people and acceptance constructive criticism. This attitude, he stated, is called growth.

Wokha DC, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS, delivering his welcome address said that he has been very fortunate to be serving at Wokha during this jubilee. He also appreciated the large gathering for showing solidarity during this occasion.

Earlier, the Jubilee Monolith was unveiled by Dy CM Y Patton. Senthan Cultural Group, Longsa presented a special folk song while special number was presented by Thunglamo Ngullie and Zareni C Kithan. The occasion also featured cultural presentations by Lotsü Cultural Group, Golaghat Cultural Group and Tug of War.
