Wokha DPDB talks on Observation Home, SEDZ

Wokha: The monthly District Planning and Development Board meeting was held on February 10 at Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall. Vice Chairman and DC Wokha Vyasan R. chaired the meeting.

Superintendent, Observation Home Wokha, Wopenthung Patton, while giving a brief introduction of observation home said that this observation home is a temporary reception of any juvenile in conflict with law during pending of any enquiry till cases are settled by JJB/CWC. He also said that the intention of the Government in opening the observation home is to transform their life through counselling, advice, education and imparting training.

V-Chairman DPDB, Wokha & DC, while explaining about the Special Economic Development Zone, said the idea behind this is to tap the economic opportunities in the foothill areas for development proposes and for improving employment opportunities. The board also proposed and identified the following areas-Merapani, Baghty, Ralan and Longtsuri area for Special Economic Development Zone.

During the meeting, the members also deliberated on the issue of acquiring public ground Wokha. After discussion, the board resolved to request the four elected legislators from the district to negotiate with the landowners for settlement of the matter at the earliest.

Earlier, reviewing the last meeting minutes, District Education Officer, Wokha submitted the detailed school wise report of Government schools having poor or nil HSLC result. The board also forwarded the proposal to higher authority submitted by Principle Mt. Tiyi College, Wokha, for introduction of Honours in Education and Economic, introduction of two new subjects-Geography and Sociology, introduction of B.Sc course and construction of football ground.
