WOKHA, OCTOBER 26 (MExN): The second edition of the Wokha inter-school Sepaktakraw tournament concluded at the local ground, with Yanrenthung Humtsoe, Chairman of MSMEPCI and President of the Wokha District Sports Association, as the guest of honour during the closing ceremony.

In his address, Humtsoe praised the enthusiastic participation of schools and students, highlighting Sepaktakraw as a dynamic sport that promotes physical fitness. He noted that their involvement reflected not just a series of games, but also a commitment to the age-old tradition of “unity through sports.” He encouraged students to continue pursuing opportunities that would enhance their skills and redefine their dedication to the game.

Humtsoe expressed gratitude to the Wokha District Sports Association for creating a platform for this unique sport, wishing for its growth and success on larger stages. He assured attendees of his support in promoting Sepaktakraw further in the district.

The tournament featured final matches across several categories: in the senior boys category, Mount Sinai School Wokha faced SMBHS Wokha; in the senior girls category, Mount Carmel School Wokha competed against Cistus School Wokha; and in the Under-14 boys category, SMBHS Wokha challenged Cistus School Wokha. The champions were Mount Sinai School Wokha (senior boys), Mount Carmel School Wokha (senior girls), and SMBHS Wokha (U-14 boys).

Following a formal programme chaired by Jonis R. Yanthan, Assistant Teacher at Mount Sinai School Wokha, Humtsoe awarded cash prizes, running trophies, and certificates to the winners. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Chibenthung Kikon, Joint Secretary of WDSA, and a benediction prayer by Zuchanthung Ezung, Vice President of WDSA.

The opening ceremony held on October 25, was graced by Habenthung Ezung, Secretary and Convener of Trade Permit and License, Wokha Town Council, as the special guest.

In his address, Habenthung Ezung officially declared the tournament open and commended the WDSA organisers for their commitment to nurturing emerging athletes and sports personalities in the district. He highlighted the dedication and consistency required in sports, urging students to give their best efforts with a holistic approach towards excellence.

Four schools participated in the tournament in categories of senior boys and girls, and junior boys.
