Wokha: Man sentenced to life imprisonment for murder

Wokha, October 30 (MExN): The District and Sessions Court, Wokha has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering a man at New Lio-Wokha in 2017. The court on October 25 sentenced the man, Lirhonthung Murry, to life imprisonment for the murder of Enibemo Ezung. 

According to a press release from Additional Public Prosecutor, Wokha Temsunaro Jamir which was issued through the state DIPR, on July 17, 2017, a dead body that was later identified as Enibemo Ezung was recovered at the premises of Primary School at New Lio-Wokha. A case was registered at the Bhandari Police Station and in the course of investigation; a charge sheet was filed against the accused Lirhonthung Murry.

“While passing the judgment, the trial Court has noted that though there is no eye witness to the occurrence, the circumstantial evidence are proved beyond reasonable doubt and shows that the chain of circumstantial evidence is so completed that there is no escape from the conclusion that in all human probabilities that the death of the deceased was caused by the accused and none else,” the press release stated. While the accused was convicted on October 22, the quantum of sentence was heard on October 25 and the accused was awarded life imprisonment (rigorous) and also to pay a fine of Rs 1,000, in default of which the convict would have to undergo simple imprisonment for 6 months.

The release also stated that the Court also convicted one Nenyalo Messen and sentenced him to imprisonment for life earlier on September 15 in connection with a murder case at Wokha Police Station. A Money Suit which was filed against the Department of Tourism, Nagaland in connection with a Contract Work Order amounting to Rs 48,82,8810 was also dismissed by the court on July 16, 2021, it added.
