Wokha, February 8 (MExN): The National Deworming Day (NDD) was observed in all the schools and Anganwadi centres under Wokha District on February 8. Observation of the NDD was held at St Peter’s School, Longsa Wokha.
Dr Khokholie, MO RBSK spoke on the importance of deworming children, a mission initiated by the Government of India Ministry of Health & Family Welfare which aims to reduce the cases of worm infections among children from 1-19 years.
Infection through parasitic worms (STH-Soil Transmitted Helminthes) was one of the most common infections in children, stated a press release from Mhonbeni Ezung, Media Officer, NHM, Wokha. It has emerged as one among world’s largest public health campaign preventing children from intestinal parasitic worms, where infection can make children anemic, mal-nourished, weak, sick, and tired with poor concentration.
ICDS supervisors visited all the AWCs in urban areas to supervise the activity. Any child not dewormed on NDD due to absenteeism or sick will be dewormed on February 14, it informed.
