Wokha observes National Voters’ Day 2026

Wokha, January 24 (MExN): Wokha district on January 24 observed National Voters’ Day 2026 under the theme “My India My Vote” at the DC’s Conference Hall in Wokha.

The programme highlighted the importance of democratic participation, the power of a single vote and the responsibility of citizens in shaping the nation’s future.

Delivering the keynote address, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Renbomo Ezung, spoke on the inception of National Voters’ Day and its significance in strengthening democratic principles.

He emphasised that voting is both a right and a duty and urged citizens to actively contribute to the democratic process through awareness and participation.

District SVEEP Icon Merilo M Kikon, in a brief address, underscored the role of voting in a democracy and said every vote carries the power to bring change, stressing the responsibility of citizens in electing the right leaders.

As part of the programme, Best Booth Level Officer (BLO) Awards were presented to officers from various Assembly Constituencies — N Zubemo Lotha (37th AC), David Tsopoe (38th AC), Thungchamo Kithan (39th AC) and Mhonchan Lotha (40th AC).

New voters were also felicitated, symbolising the inclusion of fresh voices in the democratic process. The Voters’ Pledge was administered by EAC Wokha, Thepfuzakie Sanchu.

A special presentation by Youth Alive, AG Church Wokha Town, added colour to the event. The vote of thanks was delivered by Assistant Election Officer, Wokha, Kulo Kromi, while the programme was chaired by EAC Wokha, Sangmou Khiamniungan.
