Wokha: PWD (NH) appeals orgs to call off shutdown

Wokha, October 31 (MExN): The Executive Engineer, PWD (NH) Kohima, National Highway No 1, G Vikhepu Yeptho on Sunday appealed to the Wokha civil society organisations to call off its proposed total shutdown on November 1. 

The shutdown from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm on November 1 was called by the Wokha Village Youth Organization (WVYO), Wokha Village Student’s Union (WVSU) and Wokha Village Eloe Ekhung (WVEE) after the deadline for the ultimatum served by the organisations to the PWD (NH) lapsed on October 29. In the ultimatum which was served on September 29, the organisations had demanded that the PWD (National Highway) immediately begin construction of single intermediate lane (NH-61/ NH-2) to two-lane road from Miropen Gate to Hammock Resort under Wokha district.

In this regard, the Executive Engineer stated that the letter of Award (LOA) for widening of the existing road to 2-Lane road from Km 72.400 to Km 83.000” of NH-61 (New NH-2) on EPC Mode has already been. The Department wants to start the work immediately after ROW (Right of Way) is finalized, he said in a press release issued through the state DIPR

“The bill for compensation of structure has already been forwarded to the MORTH from the Office of the Chief Engineer, PWD (NH) vide letter No.CE/NH/NH/NH (O) 2019-20 /104/GEN/423-24 Date 08/10/2021 (enclosed herein), the sanction of which is awaited,” the release stated.

The EE also said that on October 11, a meeting was convened at the Wokha Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, by the local MLA Dr Chumben Murry to discuss the status and all matters relating of the said project. “The worse damaged portion in the stretch from Niropen colony to NST colony under NH-2 is being repaired as per the direction [sic],” it added.

Stating that the department is processing the matter to the best of its ability, the EE requested the organisations not to proceed with its programme for total shutdown.
