Dimapur, May 29 (MExN): Wokha Village Council has issued a counter-rejoinder to Longsa Village Council over the May 24 Wokha incident. A note from WVC chairman Phayamo Murry stated that the WVC had not even named LVC in the representation submitted to the deputy Commissioner of Wokha (published). The WVC was not trying to make the issue between WVC and the LVC, the rejoinder stated.
The WVC state pointed out that the sequence of events in the razing of Chumchamo Murry’s house and destroying the stone monolith implies that Chonbemo Ezung was very much involved. WVC asserted that since the matter has been taken up by law-enforcing agencies whether or not Chonbemo Ezung is innocent, it is only the investigation that would “reveal.”
Regarding the erection of a signboard monolith, the WVC pointed out that it was not a boundary pillar “to divide the two villages because there is a distinct traditional boundary between the two villages since time immemorial and then there has been no dispute between the two villages.” The monolith was erected “between land belonging to Wokha village and there is no reason why the Longsa Village Council should take exception to this issue,” WVC stated. The council also refuted the stand of Longsa village that there is no boundary between the two villages. “For the erection of the stone monolith, for mutual understanding and cooperation, the Wokha Village Council notified in good faith to all the neighboring villages including Longsa village. The Wokha Village Council is trying not an make an issue between the two villages. We expect Longsa village also to maintain neutrality and allow the law to take its own course of action” the WVC added.
