Wokha, August 18 (MExN): We Care Foundation Wokha (WCFW) organized a seminar on HIV and AIDS, and drugs addiction at Government Higher Secondary School, Wokha on August 17. 

It was held with an objective to spread awareness among the youth on HIV and AIDS, and illicit drug addiction, Jonjibemo Tsopoe, Media and Information Executive, WCFW stated in a press release. 

Speaking on the occasion, Meribemo Patton, Counsellor WCFW stated that drug abuse pose the biggest threat to health and society in general which needed to be completely eliminated from the society. Patton spoke on the present scenario of drug abuse in Wokha district which is “very high among the youth.” He also added that Injecting Drug Users (IDU) are at high risk of infection with blood-borne virus including Hepatitis B & Hepatitis C. 

Renbeni Ovung, Assistant Media and Information Executive, WCFW spoke on drug abuse prevention mentioning the three component i.e. Demand reduction strategies, supply reduction strategies and strategies to mitigate the negative health and social consequences of drug use. Ovung also appeal the participants to collaborate in the fight against HIV and AIDS and Drug addiction so that progress towards treating and preventing HIV and AIDS and drug addiction can be effective.

The main focal points discussed during the seminar were providing care, support and methods of prevention. Altogether 300 students and staff attended the seminar.
