Morung Express News Dimapur | June 5 The District Excise, Dimapur on June 5 confiscated almost half a kilogram of brown sugar from a passenger at the Chumukedima Excise check-post. The, accused, a young woman was transporting the drug consignment in a taxi to Wokha from Dimapur. The District Excise said the contraband weighing 414 grams was discovered during routine frisking of vehicles. As per the preliminary inquiry, the accused (name withheld over uncertainty of age) was suspected to have been employed as a transporter. “She was told by one person in Wokha to go to Dimapur to pick up the consignment,” the District Excise said quoting preliminary inquiry. She was reportedly given the phone number of a “contact person” in Dimapur after which she reached here earlier in the morning. In Dimapur, she was handed the consignment by an unidentified woman at the taxi stand near the railway station. She was returning to Wokha in the afternoon when the taxi she was travelling in was stopped at the check post for routine frisking by Excise personnel. While stating a case has been registered, the District Excise said that further inquiry was on. The contraband was valued to be approximately Rs. 2,90,000. The street value of brown sugar in Dimapur is stated to be around Rs. 500 per gram, while in Wokha it ranges from Rs. 700-1000 a gram. IMFL seized In another unrelated incident earlier in the morning, one woman was arrested at the Chumukedima Excise checkpost while transporting illicit liquor. As per the District Excise, 120 bottles of IMFL were confiscated from the woman, identified as one Yangersangla. She was arrested and case registered as per the relevant sections of the NLTP Act, it was informed.
