The Changsao Thangjam Setshang (CTS) organised a sales day at the Parade Ground, Tuensang on October 13.

Women from more than 40 villages brought indigenous items, vegetables, fruits and other homemade products to sell at the sales day.

Citing the objective of the sales day N Akhumla, Executive Chairwoman CTS said, “CTS wants to promote Chang women through this initiative.”

CTS also stated that most of the far-flung villages find it difficult to market the products in the town owing to bad road conditions which sometimes damages the goods and hiring a vehicle to carry the products does not bring them much profit either. Due to such reasons most of the Agri products get spoiled being unable to sell in the right time.

Amen Chang, Associate Pastor Women, Sangsangyo Baptist Church who was also selling products with her friends from their village stated: “We have gathered from different villages due to the initiative of the CTS for which we are thankful to them. We are far from the town and although we get good crops it is almost impossible to bring it to the town for selling.”

“Even today, we hired a vehicle to bring the vegetables and fruits. It is hard in the village because we have to go to the field to get good crops and we cannot sell due to any reasons but today even though it is still difficult we brought whatever we could through this initiative of CTS,” she maintained.

The sales day started early at 6:00 am and the women spent the rest of the day selling all the items.

There were many items on the sale which were not available in the regular daily markets and customers thronged the ground early in the morning.

Noksen, President Donching Yangmei Saoshuong Thangjam along with her colleagues were selling some Agri products, also lauded the initiative.

“We are grateful to CTS for taking this initiative because many of us were worried where to sell the vegetables as most of it gets damaged since we cannot sell it off in time.”

“Our small women unions don’t have funds too because of pandemic lockdown and in this time of distress the CTS’ initiative has brought us much joy,” she added.
