Nagaland State Commission for Women, on Friday, formally submitted a draft of the State Women Policy 2006 to the state governor, K Sankaranarayanan, and Chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, requesting the duo for speedy approval by the state government.
A three-member team, who met the two heads of the state at their respective residences on September 14 included its member secretary, Abeni TCK, member, Ellen Konyak and was led by its chairperson, Sano Vamuzo.
The team said that they were satisfied with the positive responses accorded by both the governor and chief minister towards the draft. NSCW further expressed confidence that the government would take necessary action on the policy for the betterment of Naga women as per the guidelines of the National Policy for Empowerment of Women 2001.
Abeni also said that the draft was prepared by leading women from different fields in the state in a recently held consultative meeting on July 31 last at the commission’s office. After the draft was completed, the commission held a consultation with concerned departments, women leaders and activists, frontline NGOs and women from different spheres, where the draft was thoroughly discussed and was finally passed by all members present at the meeting, she said.
