Women’s reservation, delimitation key: Patton

Kohima, April 19 (MExN): Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton has said that the issues of women reservation and delimitation are “of great significance for the future of the country and its democratic institutions.”

In a press release issued by the Media Cell of the Deputy Chief Minister (Home & Border Affairs), Patton lauded the BJP-led NDA government’s move for 33 per cent reservation for women in legislatures, stating that it “reflects the growing role of women in public life and their rightful place in decision-making bodies.”

He said the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi “has consistently worked for the welfare, dignity and advancement of women across the nation.” Referring to initiatives in housing, sanitation, health care, financial inclusion, entrepreneurship and education, he noted that these “have created new opportunities for women and strengthened families in both rural and urban India.”

On delimitation, Patton said “every reform must protect the spirit of fairness among all states and regions.” He stated that “smaller states, especially those in the Northeast, must receive due attention so that their voices remain strong in Parliament.” He added that “national unity becomes stronger when every part of the country feels heard and respected.”

He further said that Nagaland, with its “unique history, identity and contribution to the Union,” must continue to receive proper representation in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. He stated that “the interests of the people of the state should be kept in mind in any future restructuring of parliamentary seats.”

Patton expressed confidence that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, “the concerns of all states, including Nagaland, will be heard sincerely and addressed in a balanced manner.”

The statement was issued by the Media Cell of the Deputy Chief Minister, Home & Border Affairs.
