Women’s Senior One Day Trophy: Nagaland suffer loss against Punjab

Dimapur, March 13 (MExN): The Nagaland Women cricket team suffered defeat at the hands of Punjab in their first match of the Women’s Senior One Day Trophy 2021 on March 13.

Played at the Emerald Heights International School Ground, Indore, Nagaland faced Punjab as its first opponent in the Elite D group match on Saturday.

Winning the toss, the Nagaland team elected to bat first. However, Punjab bundled them out in 39.3 overs with a total score of only 55 runs.

Meanwhile, Punjab was able to chase the target in just 7.1 overs, winning the match by 10 wickets.

The Nagaland team’s total was the second lowest among all other matches played on Saturday after Meghalaya’s 50-run total against Vidarbha.

While the Nagaland team’s skipper had earlier stated that the opponents would be tougher this year, there seems to be more work ahead for the team to stay in the competition.

Punjab, Mumbai and Baroda are currently at the top of the Elite D table with 4 points each while Nagaland, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala have 0 points and are placed at the bottom.

The teams are divided into five Elite groups and the group toppers will enter the quarter-finals. The three next best finishers will also qualify for the last-eight stage.

Nagaland’s next match is on March 15 against Madhya Pradesh who lost to Mumbai today.
