Three days women empowerment workshop on the theme ‘An Excellent Woman’ organised by Shekinah Christian Foundation in collaboration with Shamator Town Baptist Church Women from May 18 to 20 begun in Shamator with Colonel A.H Khan, Sena Medal, Col Ops & Coordinate HQ 7 AR gracing as chief guest on May 18.  

Giving the key note address, Birila Tokiu, MD, SCF, mentioned that the foundation’s sole aim is to initiate, implement and co-ordinate all kinds of activities relating to social concern and development in Nagaland, especially the remote areas in Eastern Nagaland.  

Colonel A.H Khan, Sena Medal 7 AR speaking as the chief guest said, “If you are empowering a woman, you are empowering the entire generation” and expressed optimism that the workshop will bring about the desired goal as envisioned.  

Touching upon why it is imperative to integrate woman in decision making process, he noted that society will progress only when woman are given the privilege and liberty to express themselves as one among equals. While challenging the gathering to come out of traditional mindset, the Colonel said that “empowering the woman will not take away the rights of man.”  

“As a society, as a community, where the world is moving fast and getting connected both virtually and physically we need to give voice to woman,” he added.  

Colonel Mohit Singh, Commandant, 45 AR Shamator extending greetings, remarked it is heartening and inspiring to see workshop been organised for empowerment of woman in such remote corner of India and in such tough topographical terrain where woman are promoting each other.  

Phuleshe Yepthomi, ADC Shamator also taking part in the event expressed his appreciation to the organizers for initiating the cause of woman. He maintained that such workshops will surely enhance the highest standard of development for woman socially and economically.  

Throngso Yimchunger, President, YTC called for giving equal rights to woman without prejudice as the parameter for change in society.  

Delivering welcome address Brila Tokiu said the vision behind the workshop is to empower and educate woman and to transform the society through soft power.  

The inaugural programme was chaired by Khalenmew Church & Mission Secretary, YBBA. Special songs were presented by Ayimla Thutan and folk fusion by STBC Youth.
