Kiphire, May 5 (MExN): A first of its kind four-day workshop on English language skills development was conducted at Zisaji Presidency Govt. College (ZPC), Kiphire in collaboration with ELTI (SCERT) Kohima from April 16 to 19, where 52 students and teachers from various High schools in Kiphire Town participated, Dr Anungla Aier, Principal ZPC said in a press note.
Recognizing the importance of English language skills for improving academic performance of the students and the need to equip them for life with communication skills and also to work towards making the students less dependent on teachers for study materials; training on Phonetics, Writing Skills and Study Skills were imparted during the workshop.
The workshop schedule consisted of Trainings on various sounds of English and correct pronunciation; Basic Skills of producing coherent and cohesive written texts which are also reader friendly and how to take notes from lectures and make notes using reference materials and text books.
Highlighting the benefits of the workshop, the participants expressed the need to conduct more such programs in the future.
The principal and faculty of ZPC expressed gratitude to the Director of SCERT Vipralhou kesiezie for his concern and help. They also expressed gratitude to the Resource persons Akala Kin, Reader and Aienla Imchen Lecturer from ELTI (SCERT) for their commitment and for travelling to an interior district like Kiphire to share their expertise.
