A two-day workshop on the development of the Nagaland State Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework (NSQAAF) and the State School Standards Authority (SSSA) got underway at the SIEMAT Hall, SCERT on March 19.

Organised by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), the workshop brought together key stakeholders from SCERT, DIETs, Directorate of School Education (DOSE), Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), Samagra Shiksha, NECTAR, ANPSA and ANSTA.

Addressing the inaugural programme, SCERT Additional Director, T Lima Longkumer, welcoming the participants emphasised the significance of the initiative, stating, ‘You are the chosen ones whose knowledge and suggestions will shape the future of our students.’

The workshop, he stated is focused on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to transform the education system in India by meeting the comprehensive educational, intellectual, emotional and social needs of 21st-century learners.

Pointing out a key component of the NEP 2020 which is the School Quality Assessment and Assurance Framework (SQAAF), he said this will serve as a tool to evaluate and accredit both private and government schools across all stages of education from pre-primary to higher secondary levels while ensuring the required quality standards.

Longkumer also highlighted that under the SARTHAQ (Students’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement through Quality Education) plan, over 7,177 suggestions were gathered from across the country to enhance education quality which also specifically emphasise the role of SQAAF in ensuring high educational standards.

Also outlining paragraph 8.1 of NEP 2020, he said the regulatory framework is designed to empower schools and teachers to strive for excellence while maintaining transparency through accountability measures.

Towards this end, Longkumer maintained that NSQAAF will not just be a guiding document but a transformative tool that will reshape and redefine how schools approach quality and excellence.

"We will all work together towards a common goal and your contributions is integral" he urged the participants.

Giving an overview of NSQAAF, James Sema, Sr Lecturer, DIET Dimapur reminded the participants that NEP 2020 mandates SSSA to be an independent state-wide body to ensure that all schools follow certain minimal professional and quality standards in the school education sector for effective quality self-regulation and accreditation.

He briefly explained on the schematic structure of NSQAAF and committee for setting up the standard for evaluation and accreditation such as the State School Standard Authority, governing body and executive body.

The inaugural programme was followed by two session of group work (domain wise).
