World Bank official visits ‘project villages’ in Peren

Peren, June 12 (MExN): Senior Rural Development Specialist of World Bank, Kevin Crockford successfully reviewed the ‘Village Entry Point Activities’ (EPA) from June 5 to 8 during his field visit to Peren district. 

NERLP state coordinator, M. Ringsanbo Zeliang in a press release stated that the team visited 6 villages in Peren Block i.e. Mhaikam, Mhainamtsi, Peletkie, Ndunglwa, Mpai and New Puilwa village, some of the project villages of the North East Rural Livelihoods Project (NERLP) in Peren district.

During the visit, the team inspected the Entry Point Activity (EPA) undertaken in some of the project villages and livelihood activities of the existing old SHGs in the villages. EPA under construction of waiting shed at Mhaikam, purchase of school plot in Mhainamtsi, P.A sound system at Mpai village, construction of water reserviour at Peletkie Village, purchase of furniture for community hall in existing Livelihoods activities and the problem faced for taking these ventures. The project Villages shared their inability and challenges faced in marketing their produces. 

The process of formation and function of the Self Help Group like regular meeting, inter-loaning, saving, rotation of leadership and book-keeping was also discussed. The review team cited pleasure as EPA benefiting the community and people judiciously implementing the activity the need of key principles of the project to focus more on the main issue, which hampers the livelihood improvement of the project villages. 

NERLP team accompanied the World Bank leader. The team included Mrinalinee Khonikar, Project Manager (Micro Finance); Amit Kar (Project Manager Administration); Drubhajit Sarma (Project Manager Livelihoods and Rural Marketing); Nayan Kakati (Project Manager Monitoring and Evaluation); State Coordinator M. Ringsanbo Zeliang; Ruuvilie Kotsu, District Project Manager Peren, Assistant Project Manager (Natural resource management and Environment), Coordinator L&RM, Coordinator Micro finance and Coordinator Peren (Monitoring and evaluation).
