Kohima, April 23 (MExN): World Earth Day 2025 was observed in Kohima with a series of environmental awareness activities organized by HQ IGAR (North), focusing on the global theme “Planet vs. Plastics.”

The initiative aimed to instill eco-conscious values among school students and the wider community.

The day began with a tree plantation drive at Dihoma Government High School and Assam Rifles Public School, where a total of 235 indigenous saplings were planted within the school premises and surrounding areas, promoting green cover restoration and climate action.

A painting competition was also conducted at Northfield High School under various age categories, showcasing themes of nature conservation, climate change, and sustainable lifestyles. The creative expressions of the young participants were widely appreciated, with prizes and certificates awarded to winners.

The celebration concluded with an awareness lecture on minimizing plastic usage, preserving biodiversity, and adopting eco-friendly practices in daily life.

The programme served as a meaningful reminder of the collective responsibility to protect the planet for future generations.
