WORLD HEALTH DAY 2014 ‘Small bite, Big threat’

Dimapur: Dimapur District Health Society observed World Health Day was on April 7 at School of Nursing’s Conference Hall, District Hospital Dimapur under the theme “Small Bite, Big Threat.”

It was stated in a press note that speaking on the theme, Dr. Moa Jamir, DPO (NVBDCP) stated that through the theme “Small Bite, big Threat” WHO is highlighting the serious and increasing threat of vector- borne diseases. Dr. Moa emphasized that vector borne diseases such as malaria, dengue and JE are all preventable and can be treated easily with early diagnosis.  

Dr. M. A. Wati, Chief Medical Officer Dimapur, also reaffirmed that vector borne disease can be easily controlled by keeping our surroundings clean, maintaining proper hygiene and sanitation. He hoped that with this year’s theme in mind, the medical fraternity and the communities would rededicate to control vector borne diseases in our district.

Dr. D. Mero, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Dimapur stated that mosquito has been responsible for spreading malaria which claims millions of lives all over the world. Cases of Dengue fever are also increasing in the district.

In commemoration of the World Health Day, quiz competition on Vector borne diseases focusing on Malaria, Dengue and JE was organized by NVBDCP Dimapur. The quiz was hosted by M. Ezewe, District Consultant NVBDCP and the participants were students of School of Nursing Dimapur. The winning teams were presented with Cash Prizes and Certificates. The function was attended by District Programme Officers of various programmes, Staff under School of Nursing, Nursing staff and Medical Officers under District Hospital.

Meluri: Awareness programme on Malaria in observance of World Health Day was held at Meluri on April 7, organized by Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) in collaboration with “Caritas India”, National Vector Born Disease Central Programme (NVBDCP) Nagaland and Pochury Mother’s Association. James DPO (DAN) as the resource person of the day highlighted on “Vector Borne Disease”. The DPO said that the main purpose of this programme is to let people know about the symptoms of malaria, how Malaria breeds and is spread. He also highlighted on Malaria and its prevention. The programme was chaired by Athrong field Supervisor (DAN).  Around 60 Women representing various Churches of Meluri Town attended the programme.

Mokokchung:
The World Health Day was celebrated in Mokokchung on April 7. The function held in IDSP hall, IMDH Mokokchung was organised by the Programme Officer National Vector Borne Disease Control (NVBDPC). CMO Mokokchung, Dy.CMO, Programme Officers, Medical Officers, nursing students and staffs of the department attended the programme.

Dr. SS Akaba Longchar CMO Mokokchung in his key note address called upon the health workers  and the departmental staffs to give extra effort to vector borne disease related cases and to make the society more aware of the problems.

In a quiz competition held under the quizmaster Dr. Toshila Jamir on vector borne diseases, 5 groups of Nursing students were quized out of which Team A comprising of Akumlemla, Yudila Agnes, Alokali bagged the first prize. Team E of Akali, Kulusi trakha, Lemya got the second prize. Team C Thungpeni Yanthan, Phenla Phom and Lhuselu bagged the third prize respectively. The three winners were given cash prizes.

The programme was chaired by Imkummongba( DVBD Consultant), invocation prayer by Dr. Chubatemsu DTO Mokokchung and Vote of thanks was pronounced by Dr. Marina Yaden DPO NVBDCP Mokokchung.
