KOHIMA, MARCH 20 (MExN): Oriental College Kohima observed World Poetry Day on March 20, with a special program organized by the Department of English. In his keynote address, Limanaro Walling, Head of the Department of English emphasized the importance of poetry in human life.

Walling discussed the role of poetry not only as a form of artistic expression but also as a tool for education and awareness. She questioned the relevance of poetry in today’s technology-driven world, asserting that poetry should serve as a vital form of expression amidst the dehumanizing effects of technological advancements.

The event included a variety of performances, where students showcased their creativity and talents. Participants presented original poetry compositions, as well as slam poetry, with recitations from well-known poets.

The performances reflected the spirit of inclusivity, with diverse cultural representations. Students from the English Department recited the Hindi motivational poem Zindadi Ek Aisa Safar Hai, while the Tenyidie Department’s 6th semester students presented a popular contemporary Tenyimia song, Nhicu Zha (Childhood Days). Additionally, the BA 6th semester students performed Lily of the Valley, followed by a performance of Heal the World by students of the English Department.

The event was hosted by Kükhrülü of the 2nd semester and Moalong of the 6th semester, with Ketouneinuo Khro, Chaplain of Oriental College Kohima, delivering the invocation. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Denngoi from the BA 6th semester.
