LONGLENG, OCTOBER 3 (MExN): A one day training programme on Water Quality Monitoring & Surveillance (WQMS) for Field Testing Kit (FTK) users was held on October 2 at Indoor stadium Longleng Town. The programme was organized by the District Water and Sanitation Mission, PHED Longleng and sponsored by Sanitation & WSSO, PHED, Nagaland.

The training programme envisaged on Jal Jeeven Mission (JJM) prime objective to create a community based water quality monitoring and surveillance system at the grass root level to test water quality parameters using FTKs for all water sources by the community itself to enhance awareness of safe drinking water.

Resource person, S Walling, Chemist, PHED Longleng speaking on the topic ‘Safe Drinking Water to Every Household ‘ emphasized on the need of water sources to be tested and monitored periodically so as to check the quality of drinking water.

The trainees were also taught on the basic precautionary measures to be followed while collecting water samples from the sources and the steps and procedures to test water quality by FTKs. Later FTKs and bacteriological vials were distributed to the participants. The training was attended by about 50 women members from 17 villages under Longleng division.
