WSSU raises various issues concerning education

Dimapur, April 25 (MExN): The Western Sümi Students' Union (WSSU) today expressed appreciation to the School Education Department, Nagaland, for bringing several laudable reformations but also raised various issues concerning the educational system in general and its jurisdiction in particular.

Among others issues, the WSSU pointed out that many occasions, transfer of teachers with posts from Western Sümi areas are taking place without suitable replacements being made.

The union was highlighted the issue in a letter to the department on September 21, 2023 but no positive outcome has been received till date far, it said.

The department of School Education must understand that the practice of randomly redeploying teachers during the mid-academic session not only severely affects the students' educational progress but also causes numerous hardships in their careers, it noted.

Accordingly, the WSSU urges the department to do away with such practices and adopt the policy of transfer with replacement for the welfare of the students.

Further, it urged the department to provide adequate teachers to every school in Western Sümi inhabited areas, specifically the districts of Dimapur, Niuland and Chümoukedima.

The Union also requested the department to conduct thorough verification before initiating the closure of schools in Western Sümi jurisdiction.

The department may notify the WSSU for assistance in ascertaining the actual facts and figures before executing such drastic action, it added.
