DIMAPUR, APRIL 8 (MExN): The Wonthoi Students Union (WSU) today extended support to the joint memorandum issued by the four Pangsha Range village councils viz DAN village, Old Pangsha, New Pangsha and Wonsoi village seeking the Chief Minister’s intervention on issues along the India and Myanmar border at ITC DAN.
A press note from the WSU condemned the proposed joint survey work between border pillar 145 and 146 of the Indo-Myanmar border at ITC DAN, stating that this is being planned without the consent of the indigenous inhabitants of the region.
The WSU expressed concern that by conducting survey works and drawing boundary lines based on the imaginary line demarcated by the British will only escalate more tensions and hardships to inhabitants, “as it will only bring divisions among many families, houses and native villages who are living in harmony.”
“Our ancestral land doesn’t encourage any insurgency nor to cause any disruption among the neighbouring countries. In fact, the region is one of the most remotest and undeveloped area of both sides of the countries. Hence, they should focus more on developmental works for better education, health and road connectivity,” the WSU said.
It meanwhile appealed to the surveying teams of both the countries to stop the proposed work, and rather strengthen communication and dialogue through friendly consultations, without compromising the well being of the indigenous inhabitants.
