Dimapur, June 14 (MExN): The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of two minors in separate incidents at Niuland and Dimapur, describing the crimes as barbaric and calling for the strictest punishment against the accused.
In a statement issued on June 14, the organisation expressed shock over the alleged rape of a seven-year-old child at Niuland and a 16-year-old girl at Dimapur in separate incidents. It said such crimes against innocent children are unacceptable and violate the fundamental values of honour and protection upheld by society.
The WSYF alleged that individuals from outside the state who misuse the hospitality extended to them and engage in criminal acts should face the full force of the law. It asserted that the cases should not be forgotten with time and demanded exemplary punishment for the accused.
The organisation urged the judiciary and law enforcement agencies to ensure swift justice and sought the maximum punishment permissible under the law for those found guilty. The WSYF also lauded law enforcement agencies for their prompt action in apprehending the accused and expressed solidarity with the victims and their families, assuring them of the community's support.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting women and children, the organisation said it would not tolerate such crimes and called for collective efforts to ensure the safety and security of society.
