Dimapur, September 3 (MExN): The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has expressed concern over the death of one Shiwoto Yeptho of Luhezhe Village under Niuland district, whose body was reportedly found along a railway track in Dimapur on August 29.
A press release from the WSYF said that family members reported that a white SUV arrived at Shiwoto’s residence on the night of August 28 and took him away at around 11 pm. The organisation also claimed that his clothes had been removed and personal belongings were missing when his body was found. The WSYF said it did not wish to draw conclusions before the facts were established, but stated that the circumstances "naturally raise serious questions and concerns" and that the possibility of foul play could not be ruled out.
It urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a "swift, impartial and comprehensive investigation" into the circumstances surrounding his death. The organisation called for examination of the vehicle involved, Shiwoto’s movements after leaving home, the location where his body was found, his missing belongings and the actual cause and manner of death.
"If the investigation establishes that Mr. Shiwoto Yeptho’s death was the result of foul play or a deliberate criminal act, such acts of violence will not be tolerated within our society," the WSYF stated, adding that those responsible should be identified and brought to justice through due process.
The organisation also appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to cooperate with the authorities or contact its officials at 961298903 or 8787733776.
In separate earlier statements, the WSYF had raised concerns over alleged violent incidents involving non-locals in the western region and called for stronger law enforcement, including the establishment of a police station in the Khaghaboto area. It had also urged business associations to monitor illegal immigrants and unregistered non-locals and announced a biodata collection drive in Western Sumi-inhabited areas.
