WWE super star Glenn Jacobs, aka Kane, elected mayor in Tennessee

Morung Express News Dimapur | August 3   A former WWE super star, Glenn Jacobs, better known by his ring name as the masked wrestler ‘Kane,’ has been elected as a mayor in Tennessee on August 2.   The 51-year-old Republican Jacobs who ran on issues like keeping taxes low, improved infrastructure and "transparency," won two-thirds of the vote in Knox County, beating Democrat Linda Haney, according to a BBC report. More than 80,000 total ballots cast.   Rise to fame With a the towering 6-foot-8 inch height, Jacobs rose to fame in the mid-90s with his breakthrough character Kane, the masked on-screen half-brother of The Undertaker (real name Mark Calaway).   Despite being described as "a monstrous abomination that seems to have been extracted directly from your childhood nightmares,” he believes his former career will be a help and not a hindrance, the BBC report said.   "The thing someone like me brings to a race like this is, because of who I am, I can put Knox County in a positive light, nationally," he told local news station WBIR. "There are so many great things our county has to offer, and frankly the rest of the country needs to know about it."   For more than 20 years, Jacobs has been a resident of Tennessee where, in addition to his in-ring career, he and his wife operate a local insurance and real estate company, ESPN.com reported.   A variety of WWE icons traveled to Tennessee during Jacobs' campaign to help with fundraising efforts, including The Undertaker, it added.   Jacobs officially will take over as mayor of Knox County on September 1.   He is the second WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc) star to win public office in the US, according to BBC. Jesse Ventura, aka Jesse "The Body" Ventura, was elected mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, in 1990, and later elected as the state governor in 1998.
