XI Brothers retain LFC 2025 title

The XI Brothers football team emerged victorious in the 14th Edition of the Lotha Football Championship (LFC) held today at the Local Ground, Wokha, retaining their title for the third consecutive year. The event, organized by the Wokha District Football Association (WDFA), featured an exhilarating final match, which saw the defending champions defeat Nitsyan FC 4-1.

The closing ceremony was graced by special guest, Achumbemo Kikon, MLA & Chairman of SDPDB Bhandari, who addressed the audience on the significance of community involvement and good sportsmanship. Kikon urged spectators to encourage a supportive and civilized atmosphere, both on and off the field, to contribute to the success of the players. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public spaces and encouraged citizens to embrace a more positive and cooperative approach toward development in the district.

Kikon also encouraged the youth to pursue sports seriously, warning against the dangers of drugs and other harmful substances. He reminded young athletes that sports can provide not only physical health but also career opportunities. As the New Year begins, Kikon’s call for unity and progress resonated with the audience, marking the end of another successful edition of the Lotha Football Championship.

The final match was a thrilling contest. XI Brothers took an early lead with a goal by Mhabemo Kikon in the 6th minute, only for Nchum Murry to equalize for Nitsyan FC three minutes later. The first half ended 1-1, setting the stage for an intense second half. XI Brothers regained control when Toka scored in the 79th minute, followed by two more goals from substitute player Wonrhon in the 81st and 90+ minutes, sealing a 4-1 win for the champions.

The event was marked by performances, including a song by Sojano Tsopoe and an energetic rendition of “Viva la Vida” by Yanbemo Yanthan. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards and a message of congratulations to the winning team.
