Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako and Tikhir Students’ Union held its first ever joint consultative meeting at Council Hall, Chessore Village under Shamator district on May 21.

Resolves to foster unity and friendship among Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities
Shamator, May 21 (MExN): The Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA) and the Tikhir Students’ Union (TSU) held its first ever joint consultative meeting to deliberate on wide ranging issues and challenges facing the two communities. The meeting was held at Council Hall, Chessore Village under Shamator District on May 21.
The programme was presided over by Shokum KM, Deputy Speaker YAA with Napoleon K, General Secretary TSU acting as the recorder, stated a press release received here. The programme began with invocation by TS Wongtong, Assembly Secretary YAA. The significance of the meet was highlighted by Kiuthrun C Yimchunger, Vice President, YAA while the respective presidents of YAA and TSU gave the presidential address.
Terming the meet as a ‘landmark and historic moment,’ Keyoungkhum K, President YAA called on both the students’ leaders to unite and strive wholeheartedly for a shared future. Lamenting that both the communities have “wasted enough time in petty conflicts and arguments, thus creating a huge gap,” he stressed on the positive role youngsters can play in bridging the gap.
He called on all present to discard the past negative instances and to strive and unite to set a good example for all the Nagas to follow.
Temong Y Tikhir, President TSU stressed that “Tikhir and Yimkhiung were brothers, still is and will remain so in future as well.” Lamenting “Tikhirs faced a lot of hardships prior to their official recognition as a separate tribe,” he implied that “unity is a precious gift which doesn’t come overnight but is a product of patience, forgiveness and generosity.” He said that Shamator, christened as ‘Brotherhood District’ should stand as a testimony to the need to stand united for progress and development.
A short prayer session was held for both the YAA and TSU teams followed by concluding remark by Tantsukiu Deputy Speaker TSU. The programme concluded with benediction by Rechongkiu, Executive Chairman TSU.
It may be noted that to further foster cohesion and amity among the two communities at the grassroots level, the two unions resolved to jointly organise “Brotherhood Cultural Exchange Programme” in the year 2025 which will be hosted by Tikhir Students’ Union.
