
Dimapur, March 5 (MExN): The Yimchunger Union of Kohima today demanded the immediate release of the six arrested suspects from the police custody and demanded an inquiry by the police higher authority into police atrocities during interrogation of the suspects.
A press release issued by the president of the Kohima Yimchunger Union, T Kekongchim Yimchunger alleged that the six arrested suspects were brought to Dimapur on the pretext of security reasons have been tortured to the ‘maximum using 3rd and 4th degree’, which is highly questionable and added that it was a violation of human rights.
The release further stated that one of the accused has been hospitalized and another is in critical condition in the East Police Station with no medical facilities.
The release asked the concerned authority to investigate into the excesses committed by the police officers and befitting action be taken before things go out of hand. The release further demanded the release of the six arrested persons immediately before things go out of hand.
The release gave a stern warning that no individual is so great however much he thinks of himself taking advantage of the post he holds, “for that is not permanent.”
The release warned that if any untoward incident occured to those arrested persons while in the custody of the police or if they become handicaps even after their release, “those police officers shall be responsible for all the outcome and shall be directly answerable to the Yimchunger Tribe individually,” for the police officers are doing all this extreme action in their own personal interest, the release stated.
