YMCA & Caritas India provides assistance to flood affected families in Assam

Dimapur, October 12 (MExN): As part of their humanitarian service to afflicted people under the Assam Flood Response 2022, Caritas India in collaboration with YMCA Madras and YMCA, North Eastern Region donated food kits along with financial assistance to the flood affected families of Deramukh under Satgaon Parish, West Karbi Anglong District, Assam on October 8.

A press release issued by Dr Andrew Ahoto Sema, President, YMCA Dimapur, Nagaland & Vice-Chairman, YMCA North East India Region stated that the flood affected families were given away the relief materials during a brief function which was organized at Deramukh and graced by Dr Vincent George, President of Madras YMCA and Chairman, Southern Region of YMCAs India as the chief guest and Dr Andrew Ahoto Sema as guest of honour. 

Caritas India was represented during the occasion by Jonas Lakra, Zonal Programme Lead, Caritas India, North East Zone.

The other officials who took part in the noble initiative included Shamir Thabah, Regional Secretary, YMCA North Eastern Region, MJ Martin Kennedy, Treasurer, YMCA Madras, Rajjiv George, Board Member YMCA Madras and Gideon Thangaraj, Board Member YMCA Madras. 

Caritas India and its partner organizations including the YMCA have been carrying out relief operations in India’s northeastern state of Assam after it was devastated by floods leading to hundreds of families being rendered homeless and displaced. Flood relief operations were launched two weeks ago by extending food and nutrition, water sanitation and hygiene besides shelter and non-food item support. The distributed kits include food, water, dry rations and medicine along with an emergency shelter.

It is a matter of great relief and blessing for the people of Satgaon that YMCA Southern Region has decided to adopt the village for its development. Satgaon, comprising of seven smaller villages, happens to be one of the biggest Garo villages of Assam.
