YNC marks Moatsü with folk dance competition

Morung Express News Ungma | May 1   As part of the Moatsü festival celebration, the Young Naga Club of Ungma village organized ‘the 43rd Young Naga Club Moatsü celebration cum Folk dance competition’ at the Babutzubo Ampitheatre here this evening with Parliamentary Secretary for IPR, Imtikumzuk as the chief guest.   Altogether ten clubs at Ungma village participated in the folk dance competition where young boys and girls in full traditional attires presented traditional dances which was judged by a panel of judges.   The chief guest, parliamentary secretary Imtikumzuk, while speaking at the programme, highly lauded the Young Naga Club for organizing the folk dance competition for celebrating Moatsü and also to preserve the Naga customary traditions.   While speaking about the importance of preserving ones culture and traditions, Imtikumzuk said that the world today, because of technological advancements, have become a global village. In such a scenario, even the Naga society is not free from the influence of other cultures like European, American or Indian cultures. However, he said that the Nagas should never forget their culture and traditions. He said that preserving ones culture does not mean to go back to go back to the days of our forefathers but to appreciate and cherish the sanctified lives of our fore parents.   Also while lauding the elders from Ungma village who popularised and advertised to outside world, the parliamentary secretary also encouraged the youths to emulate their elders and make Ungma as a culture industry’ and advertise the Naga culture and traditions to the outside world. Nonetheless, he advised the youths not to neglect their educational careers and give equal importance to education while also preserving the traditions and culture.   Speaking from a political point of view, Imtikumzuk asserted that there is no alternative political party to Naga People’s Front under Chief Minister Dr Shurhozelie and DAN Chairman TR Zeliang. In this connection, he challenged that if the Ungma villagers, which has three legislators, also stick with the NPF party, then they would get more blessings in the days to come since there is no other political party that can compete with the NPF.   Meanwhile, the pastor of Ungma Baptist Church, Rev Dr Noklen invoked God’s blessing while Tatar Ungma village council, Imtitongba Jamir exhorted the gathering. The president of the Young Naga Club welcome the gathering while the YNC ex-office bearers presented a folk song.
