Yongyar Coffee Bar, an initiative of the Land Resource Department (LRD) was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Land Resource Department office complex, Mokokchung by Mokokchung Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shashank Pratap Singh.
Yongyar is an Ao word which is loosely translated as a time of tea or snacks during any festivity.
Mokokchung LRD District Project Officer Sashiyangba, in his welcome address pointed out that the Department of Land Resources has established a coffee bar in every district in Nagaland and that Mokokchung has an area of around 350 Ha under coffee plantation.
“As the world is becoming health conscious and opting for more healthier option, we should shift from the consumption of chemically processed boiled tea culture into traditional and organic tea/coffee culture like roselle tea, local processed organic coffee and tea products, for a healthier future”, he said.
He also emphasised on permaculture keeping in mind the ever-growing degrading ecosystem in order to sustain, preserve and secure a healthier future environment.
ADC Mokokchung, who spoke as the chief guest at the inaugural programme, said that we should create more awareness among the youth regarding coffee and its health benefits to increase the consumption. He stated the how COVID-19 pandemic has taught the importance of agriculture and further said that that the youths should focus more on farming sector and that coffee can play a significant role in it.
He also stressed on the point of establishing and promoting own brand name like “Naga Coffee” targeting not only local markets but also the international markets.
