Yoto Chizo lost to a Muaythai athlete from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Asian Muaythai Championship 2025 held in Thai Nguyen, Vietnam.
Chizo, a distinguished Muaythai athlete from Nagaland, competed in the under 71 kg category and was defeated by Mohammed Karim of UAE on June 21.
He was part of the 29-member Team India at the championship and represented India on the international stage for the fourth time. The prestigious tournament marked Chizo’s final international appearance, as he announced his retirement after five years in combat sports.
Chizo, son of Razuchi Chizo from Phek district, brought pride to the nation through his consistent performances at both national and international levels. He was a National Muaythai Champion, a two-time East Asian Muaythai bronze medalist, represented India at the World Championship in Bangkok, and was also a gold medalist in boxing and Wushu at the state and Northeast levels.
“Though I couldn’t bring home the medal I dreamed of this time, I carried our name with pride. The journey was tough, but filled with purpose, growth, and grace,” Chizo said.
He expressed gratitude to his family, village, coaches, Team SFA, IFMA, and all who supported him throughout his journey in combat sports. He also thanked the Chakhesang youth and women organizations for their support.
