‘Youth are the most important & dynamic segment of population’

National Youth Policy and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhivan launched in Tuensang

Tuensang, March 1 (DIPR): Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, T. Mhabemo Yanthan on February 27 asserted that youth are the most important and dynamic segment of the population in the country. Speaking as chief guest at the launching programme of National Youth Policy and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhivan at public ground Tuensang, Mhabemo said that India is expected to become the 4th largest economy by 2025 contributing about 5.5- 6% to the world Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The population of the youth of the country will be 27.05% in the age group of 15-29 years and will make a significant contribution to the economic development of the country. Mhabemo also said that, the youth must be educated and equipped with necessary skills to forge sustainable livelihood in order to create productive youth work force that contribute to economic development. The chief guest also said that youth should emphasize more on entrepreneurship in order to enable them to have self sufficiency and ultimately contribute to the nation.

With the increase of employment problem in the state, the youth should take keen interest on entrepreneurship skill, Mhabemo stressed. He further pointed out that sports and recreational activities are an essential component of the growth and development of a young individual which should be integrated to formal education. He also said that it is imperative and important on the part of the youth to take a leading role in eradicating the enormous problem that is confronting and challenging us. The chief guest also flagged off the rally, where thousands of students from various schools attended.

In his keynote address, John Makhabo, District Youth Coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra Tuensang, said that the national youth policy and Rajiv Gandhi Abhivan is being introduced for all round development and empowerment of the youths with budget target of Rs. 90,000 Crore. He also highlighted the key issues and challenges faced by the youth and elaborated on how all the stakeholders can support the youth to ensure they contribute positively to the development of the society. He added that the vision of national youth policy was to empower youth of the country to achieve their full potential and find its rightful place in the nation.
